Professional vs. Consumer Extraction Equipment

A consumer wet-vac holds 5 to 6 gallons and requires constant emptying. A truck-mounted professional extractor holds hundreds of gallons and maintains consistent suction throughout. The practical difference is not just speed — consumer equipment cannot generate the suction needed to pull water from carpet padding, subflooring, or the bottom layer of drywall. Professional equipment reaches these materials; consumer equipment cleans the surface.

The Assessment Before Extraction Begins

Before we extract a single gallon, we walk the property with thermal cameras and moisture meters to map where water has traveled. This matters because water in a home does not stay where it entered — it flows to the lowest point, wicks into adjacent materials, and travels along framing members. Knowing exactly where it has reached before extraction begins ensures we address all of it, not just the visible surface.

What Happens to Contents During Extraction

Contents — furniture, rugs, personal belongings — are assessed and moved before extraction begins. Items that have been wet are documented for insurance. Salvageable items are moved to dry areas. How Long Does Water Extraction Take?

Extraction for a single room typically takes 1 to 3 hours depending on the volume of water. Larger areas — a flooded basement, multiple rooms — may take longer. We work until all standing water and as much near-surface absorbed water as is accessible is removed before setting up drying equipment. We don't leave with standing water remaining.
